way of doing it than by getting an LCD screen.
More sets are now offering FREEVIEW built-in and others offer the chance to get possibly the
“ultimate” in TV experiences –
High Definition (look out for the special logo on featured sets)
Being
completely flat, the units reduce glare and reflection that can be a problem
with some conventional curved screens, and unlike earlier offerings, the wide
viewing angle is very impressive, so you don’t have to be sat directly in front
of the screen to see the picture clearly.
These
sets are sleek, slim and take up far less space than conventional TV’s. From
15” to 46” screen size, and with certain models acting as computer monitors
too, now is the time to upgrade your viewing pleasure!
Look
for sets with HDMI sockets – they allow the connection of High Definition
devices like a Sky HD box, and as long as you have the necessary subscription,
you can watch the finest and sharpest television pictures you’ve ever seen from
the comfort of your armchair!
Add
even more to your viewing experience by mounting your new LCD TV on the wall –
brackets start at around £20, and can be anything from a flat against-the-wall
type, all the way to a large multi-jointed unit that pivots and tilts in many
directions.

DIGITAL TV RECEPTION
In
and around Chipping Norton, signal quality varies immensely. If you are
thinking of “upgrading” your viewing choices to get more channels, then
currently there are two main routes to take:
1. SKY - This involves a new dish on the wall or roof of your house, a decoder box in the house, and a cable connecting them. A monthly fee is paid direct to SKY of between £16 and £45 depending on which of the 15 different packages is selected. A minimum 12 month contract must be signed with SKY to benefit from the subsidised cost of the equipment, and a telephone line must be connected for the duration of the initial contract. There is also an installation charge, starting from £30. We can undertake the installation of your SKY system – ask for details.
Also from SKY, try SKY+ the next stage in TV viewing experiences. The SKY+ box gives you the ability to watch one SKY channel while recording another one WITHOUT TAPES!! The box stores your recording onto its own internal hard-drive and you can play it back whenever you like. The hard-drive will store around 40 hours of programmes automatically, and then you can transfer them onto tapes or delete them to make room for more.

SKY also now offer their own version of “Freeview”. You can pay a one-off fee of £150* to get the necessary equipment installed, and then receive their array of free channels – no further fees or costs to you! Over 200 channels are available via this method, though many of them are radio stations. Up to 4 “FREESAT” boxes can be applied for at a single address, subject to necessary conditions being fulfilled.
New from SKY – SKY HD “Feel everything”. SKY+ HD gives up to 4 times the resolution of a standard picture allowing you to see a much more detailed picture on a suitably equipped television. SKY+HD gives you all the features that SKY+ does, with the added ability to record more of your favourite programmes – upto 80 hours in standard definition, or 30 hours in high definition. 2. FREEVIEW - a much cheaper option than SKY, but harder to receive due to transmitter / signal related problems. A quick test to see if your house can get the FREEVIEW signals is “Do you currently get Channel 5?” if the answer is “YES”, and the picture is clear with no fuzzy bits, then you stand a good chance of being able to get FREEVIEW. There is NO GUARANTEE that FREEVIEW will work 100% even if you do get Channel 5, as the signals are sent in several “packets” and so you might get one or two of these “packets” but not all of them. If you are on a communal aerial system there can be problems with digital reception – please ask for more details in the shop. Currently there are over 60 channels available on FREEVIEW (a combination of TV, Radio and text services), but this is likely to increase over time. We have FREEVIEW boxes in store from as little as £45 depending on manufacturer, and they simply plug into your existing aerial system. There are no contracts, ongoing payments or further costs.
In certain circumstances it may be necessary to upgrade your aerial, especially if it’s old, and a digital aerial will receive a wider range of signals and will “future-proof” you to a degree for when more of our TV signals are digitally encoded.

Also now available – freesat from the BBC and ITV
There is now another way to get digital programmes. For a one-off fee (box + installation) you can be watching freeview digital signals via a satellite dish, and if you buy an HD box and connect it to an HD television, you can watch HD programmes without having to subscribe to SKY.
